Minutes of the special emergency meeting of the board of directors and officers of the Kentucky Outdoor Press Association on this 12th of May 2010.

•	Tom Clay calls the meeting to order at 11:30 May 12th 2010.
Tom has a roll call, all members are present except Paul Moore they include: Tom Clay, Pat Roberson, Rob Bentley, Chris Erwin, Etta Pettijohn is present by speaker phone.

•	Chris Erwin, Secretary, makes a motion that we wave the reading of our last meeting minutes, along with past business, since this special meeting is only for filling the position of treasurer, left vacant by the passing of Wayne Pettijohn.

The motion is seconded by Pat Roberson, the motion is carried.

•	Tom gives a short speech on the passing of Wayne Pettijohn but explains that this meeting was called for filling his position since it is urgent to put someone in that position to secure our treasury money.

•	Tom then asks if they are any other new business that should be taken up at this time, no one makes a motion, so Tom proceeds to ask for nominations for the position of treasurer.

•	Chris Erwin makes the motion that we elect Wanda Clay to fill the position of the treasurer until the fall meeting when we will have the election for all officers and board members. The motion is seconded by Pat Roberson. Tom asks if there is any other name that anyone wants to nominate at this time, no one responds.

•	At that time, Tom asked for a vote, all members for Wanda, vote yea all opposed vote nays. All members vote yea and Wanda is elected as the new treasurer.

•	Tom at this time asked if there is anything else that should be addressed at this meeting, after a minute of silence, he announces that the meeting is officially closed.

Chris Erwin, Secretary, tells the rest of the members that he plans to attend Wayne’s services and will post the minutes of this meeting in the blog section of the website, that location is http://www.kopa.us/laker/

Senator Webb Named NASC Executive Council Officer

FRANKFORT – State Senator Robin Webb, D-Grayson, recently agreed to serve as Secretary of the Executive Council of the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) at its annual Sportsman-Legislator Summit in McCall, Idaho.

Rep. Mike Pitts of South Carolina, President of the NASC Executive Council, nominated Senator Webb to serve in her new role as Secretary.

Senator Webb is serving her third term on the Council.

“This is an exciting opportunity to become even more involved with the issues that sportsmen and outdoors lovers are facing today,” Senator Webb said. “I’ve enjoyed sharing my ideas with other states and, in turn, gathering ideas I can bring back to Kentucky, and now I can do even more for the people of this Commonwealth in that regard.”

“We are pleased that our long time supporter and trusted Executive Council member Senator Robin Webb has agreed to serve in this capacity,” said Jeff Crane, President of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation. “Senator Webb is to be commended for her service to the NASC and her commitment to protecting the rights of hunters and anglers in Kentucky and across the nation.”

The three-day meeting, hosted by NASC and the Idaho Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus and Idaho Sportsmen’s Caucus Advisory Council, is the largest gathering of state sportsmen legislators in the United States.

Senator Webb participated in this unique forum to discuss policy issues of concern to hunters and anglers in Kentucky and around the nation as well as exchange ideas on pro-sportsmen legislation as well as issues and trends of concern to the outdoor community.
Policy sessions included: state legislative trends and victories, federal issues and current state issues such as: state wildlife management, building a state caucus advisory council, hunting & fishing education, puppy mills, trapping, state partnerships with non-governmental organizations, and micro-stamping/bullet serialization.

Hello Gang!
This is the first post in the new KOPA blog site, this is the third time I have build this part of the site for reasons I won’t go into right now, but I wanted to let you all know this part of the site is up and working.

Some of you know and many of you may not know, I feel like as a group we should be thinking about developing work shops to help members that might not have a good working knowledge of how to use things like the blog area, message board, live chat..

I do know this, as a group we are not really working together as well as we could be, the observation has been made that as a group of “communicators” we aren’t communicating with each other all that well, I personally feel that much of this could be improved if we look to our members and come up with a few workshops that could help make it easier for members to use all of the tools that I have built on this site.

We have a handful of members that have joined the message board, none that had joined the blog area, they are a few reasons that could be the cause of this, one being that many of our members may not have the on-line skills to work effectively with the programs that have been developed for our members.

I know we happen to have some of the best photographers, writers, broadcasters, as well as other forms of serving the public in bring the outdoors to the living rooms of outdoor enthusiast everywhere, groups like KOPA have an obligation to improve its members when they have the chance, I hope that at lease some of you agree with me, and at our next meeting we can start to work on a plan to improve our ability to work together to make us all more marketable and skillful in our jobs.

I will be sending you all a letter very soon in spelling out some goals I feel we should at lease talked about at out next meeting.

Your comments are welcome and if you have the ability to post a comment here you might be one of the people that doesn’t need help in using the website, but if you can’t post a reply to this post because you don’t know how, then you could benefit from some on-line instructional help I am referring to.

They are many areas that could be subjects of workshops I bet you can think of a few..

Thank you,
Chris “Trimmer” Erwin
Secretary/ Webmaster
